La visite du ministre de l’intérieur et des Outre-mer Gérald Darmanin en mars 2023 a confirmé la vision souverainiste d’une Calédonie française. Pour résumer, la porte de la discussion est ouverte, mais le ministre « prendra ses responsabilités » et préparera la révision constitutionnelle qui ouvrira le corps électoral aux arrivants français. Le président de la République viendrait en Nouvelle-Calédonie. Pour le président français, venir clore la colonisation française par un discours devant le peuple kanak légitimant la présence française paraît être une bien mauvaise idée. De cette séquence calamiteuse, deux grands points émergent : la rupture de la parole d’indépendance de la France donnée aux Kanak et un nouveau statut constitutionnel unilatéral pour la Nouvelle-Calédonie.

In March 2023, the visit of the Minister of the Interior and Overseas Territories Gérald Darmanin confirmed the sovereign approach of a French New Caledonia. To sum up, the door to discussion is open, but the Minister will “take his responsibilities”, prepare the revision of the Constitution which will open the electoral body to French newcomers. The President of the Republic would come to New Caledonia. For the French President to come and close the French colonization with a speech to the Kanak people legitimizing the French presence seems a very bad idea. From this calamitous sequence, two main points emerge: the breaking of France’s word of independence to the Kanak people and a new unilateral constitutional status for New Caledonia.
